Change of transhipment hub reduces transit time by 9 days

East Africa specialist WEC Lines announced, that King Abdullah port will replace current transhipment hub Colombo. This results in a substantial improvement of the transit time to and from Mombasa:

In the new setting, containers will reach Mombasa from Antwerp within 28 days, down from currently 37 days. Traders will be pleased to note the changes on the northbound leg: The voyage from Mombasa to Antwerp comes down to 29 days - a reduction of 9 days, compared to the current setting. Other port pairs see similar improvements thanks to the new service structure.

Changes on the soutbound service will come in to effect on 14.12.2020. The new rotation on the northbound service commences with the departure of MSC Levina, which is expected to arrive in Mombasa on 27.12.2020.

Dar es Salaam imports from Europe will henceforth transship in Mundra, whilst Dar es Salaam exports will still sail via South Africa for the time being.

Shorter transit times to and from Mombasa are good news for both, freight forwarders and traders. Especially trading houses dealing with cocoa or coffee often depend on fast connections to Europe. Contact us for further information, sailing schedules and bookings.
